You owe yourself
Can you tell the winners from the losers?
I can. It’s in the subtleties.
I have a teenage step-daughter who is in love with singing. In fact, I think she sings like an angel. At least that’s what I felt after I heard her for the first time.
It was an 8th grade talent show and she was the first act.
Now this is a kid who is typically shy and somewhat unsure of herself. Imagine my surprise, when I saw her walk on stage, head up, shoulders back and ready to take the mic.
It was heaven! Remarkable. Tear provoking.
Pure talent? Yes. But something more, too.
Something similar happened when watching another singing competition on television.
Two contestants. Same question, “Are you ready?”
Contestant number one: “This is my time!”
The other contestant: “I need this!”
See the difference?
This IS vs. I NEED
Guess who won?
And what did the judges say was the reason why? CONFIDENCE.
Confidence of the first contestant allowed her to belt it out, let loose, be free.
Fear of loss, what would happen if she did, prevented the second contestant from being in the moment.
So again, I am inspired by my biggest passion and belief. Inner confidence can allow you to do anything that you set your mind to do. ANYTHING.
Take a look at your work history for example.
Are you in the right place? Are you being invested in?
Have you surrounded yourself with people that believe in you?
Don’t get me wrong, part of maturing in business is the unfortunate realization that not everyone is lucky enough to have a mentor. You ARE responsible for your own career potential. Even the best companies that are famous for their talent development, Estee Lauder Companies, Starbucks, Nordstrom, there comes a point – and it should be early on -that you must be your biggest advocate.
Being a career coach, of course I love this idea.
To help people assess their professional situations with a greater degree of honesty, curiosity, empathy and compassion is the core virtue of career coaching at Beautifully Inspired.
You are not destined to go through the motions of life. You are destined for greatness.
So… what's a gal (or guy) to do?
- Invest in yourself.
- Learn more about your natural talents and abilities independently or with a partner
- Attend seminars
- Start a group of like-minded individuals (more to come on this wonderful topic in coming posts)
But most importantly – believe you can.
